Mildred Simmons’
experience spans over 51 years bringing people of all ages to Jesus
Christ with her husband, a retired pastor. During the years of
church ministry, Mildred has filled varied roles from church secretary,
song leader, youth leader & chauffer, hostess for many dinners,
constructing worship banners to “pinch-hitting,” (which translates
“very little skill”) for the church organist. By invitation, Mildred
even filled in for her husband by preaching the Sunday opening
revival service for another church when her husband’s schedule
prevented his attendance until the next evening service. |
|
|
Being a
minister’s wife, she learned early that you must keep it going, that
you must believe you can…“do all things through Christ Jesus who
strengthens you!” Mildred believes her best gift to the Body of
Christ is teaching from the Word of God - in children, youth, and
adult Sunday School classes, in home and church Bible Studies, and
in women’s seminars. |

Mildred’s
goal is freeing people ensnared and deceived by this world’s
darkness. She introduces them to the Way, the Truth, and the
Life - Jesus Christ. Her teaching opens Biblical truths for
understanding the maturing process that is necessary for both
spiritual life and service in the Kingdom of God. Teaching focuses
on learning who, and what we are in Christ, learning what we possess
in Covenant by Christ, and learning what we can accomplish with the
power and anointing of the Holy Spirit and with our authority in
Christ. Simply, it is ‘Doing Life God’s Way’ - Mildred’s motto. |

Volunteer
work that impacts the lives of children gave impetus to Mildred’s
service on the Wood County Child Welfare Board (Texas). During her
three year term, Mildred advocated at the local level for children
suffering from abuse and neglect. |
|
|
In June, 1989, Mildred and a
friend volunteered for couriers partnering with Open Doors, an
international organization that ministers to persecuted Christians,
founded by “Brother Andrew” van der Bijl. They took bibles and other
related materials into communist China for delivery to believers who
requested them. Mildred and her friend successfully completed
several missions crossing the border into communist China amid
extreme tensions ignited by the Tiananmen Square massacre occurrence
just six days before their arrival in Hong Kong. |

|
Mildred
helped charter and served on the Board of Directors of Hosea’s Hope
Ministries, a Christian faith-based organization in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area that helped women safely exit the adult
entertainment industry. She opened her home to the women for Bible
Study, and also aided them in an advisory role. |

While
serving the First United Methodist Church, Carrollton, Texas, Jerry
and Mildred were twice featured guests of Marcus and Joni Lamb on
their program, Celebration, aired on the Daystar Television Network. |

Mildred
helped start a Mother’s Day Out care program for the Asbury UMC,
Denton, Texas. She was a class teacher and assisted the program
director during the first few years. The care program also provided
an expanded curriculum for families committed to Home Schooling. |

Mildred
organized and taught a Summer Women’s Seminar for the Denton-Dallas
area the last four years while at Asbury United Methodist Church.
Guest ministries were invited sharing their faith-inspired gifts
highlighting the theme of the seminar. The first summer seminar
featured Susan Duke, best-selling author, singer, and speaker,
presenting “Tea With Jesus." Subsequent summers featured Ralphena
Dodson, speaker, teacher, singer, Gift To The World Ministry
International, Houston, Texas; the “Irrepressible” Hettie Lue
Brooks, Seminar presenter-speaker, and teacher, Hettie Lue Brooks
Ministries, Hot Springs, Arkansas; and Kenton Pate, evangelist,
teacher, and pastor, Kenton Pate Ministries, Midway, Texas. |
|
|
For the
last Summer Women’s Seminar at Asbury, Pastor Kenton Pate conducted
the banquet supper, “One Afternoon with the King,” modeled after the
banquet supper that the Master prepared for His guests in Luke
14:16-23. God supplied our banquet supper with a donation from a
chicken farm-supplier of organic chicken. The owner had the chicken
barbequed by a restaurant that also donated ample sides and
trimmings. We witnessed God, the Master, set His banquet table with
the best! Weeks before, the banquet, Pastor Kenton and some of his
people, along with Asbury people, went to “the streets, and lanes of
the city” in Denton, Texas. They searched out places of the “poor,
the half-way houses, and the Salvation Army quarters, extending a
compelling invitation to the “lame, the maimed, and the blind.” Area
Churches were invited, and advertisements were posted using the
media outlets - “Spend One Afternoon With the King. Come, everything
is prepared.” On Banquet day guests spent the afternoon eating and
enjoying music in the Presence of King Jesus. After listening to
Pastor Kenton tell them about the King’s Love that heals and changes
lives, some received prayer for healing and some of the guests met
the King as Savior and became citizens in the Kingdom of God. |

Mildred
firmly believes God Is A Good God! He loves the world, and He wants
all people to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
The scriptures that ground her personal life, her family life, her
ministry to others, and her teaching discipline are Matthew 6:25-34;
Mark 16:15-18; Romans 5:l5-17; and 2 Chronicles 6:27… |

“Teach them
the good way in which they should walk.” |

Mildred
and Jerry retired in 2008 from the United Methodist Church, but did
not retire from active ministry. They reside in Meadowlakes, Texas.
They still teach and preach when invited, and are most definitely
active in witnessing the love of Jesus, bringing others into the
Kingdom of God. |

For
Mildred and Jerry’s 50th wedding anniversary, their family surprised
them by fulfilling their dream - their desire to visit Israel. Tel
Aviv was ‘home base’ for an entire month while they toured
throughout The Land! |

Mildred
and Jerry dearly love their family, and are grateful for three of
the finest sons and daughters-in-law, and seven of the finest
grandchildren that God could ever give to parents and to
grandparents. Honoring God, Mildred and Jerry dedicated their sons
to the LORD, and now their sons with their families are honoring the
LORD serving Him in the Kingdom of God. |
